I have another fight with my insurance company today about Taylor's "unapproved diagnosis". I've pretty much determined that our coverage is minimally useful at best. It covers the basic well-child check ups...... and I think that is about it. I paid more for medical care last year, than I made for the year last year. Same with 2008. I'm not impressed by any means. After my informative-and-not-helpful-at-all conversation with the insurance company, I called the billing lady at Taylor's PT's office to talk to her about what was going on and to see where we stood and what to do. She basically confirmed my feelings about my insurance company not knowing ANYTHING and not covering anything and basically being being junk in general, and then calmed me back down by informing me that this would in no way harm Taylor: she will still continue to get her OT/PT and if the insurance co doesn't pay, then that's that. The PT group will basically eat the loss. If it weren't for this group and Shriners Hospital, I don't even know, nor do I want to think about, were Taylor would be right now. I, and Taylor, are so fortunate these 2 companies exist and are willing and able to help her. I am eternally grateful.

Finally! The holidays (and year) are almost over.
I'm such a crank this time of year. The craziness of too many people at the stores, the people who forgot how to drive when it snows, or even "dusts" a few flakes, the wrapping like theirs no tomorrow, then the opening like theirs no tomorrow..... if it weren't for my girls, I'd be done with all of it. I just feel like I don't have time to breathe, let alone do anything else. It makes me nuts. And then the fighting with random family members about how I don't want 15 Christmas's.....I want my girls to have one. Santa comes one time a year....not every day of December. Grrr. Enough ranting....well, maybe......
As 2009 comes to an end...

At Camp. We missed the ball drop yet again. We started the night at Marge and Louis' house.....for some foolish reason we left to go back to camp (apparently at 11:50ish) to fire up the generator to power the TV so we could see it and shout our "Happy New Year" and then go to bed. Needless to say, we got to camp, found out it was already 10 after 12....so we just went to bed.

Yes and Sort of. Ashtyn needed to see the Doc for an "issue" with bubble bath soap and her pedi was on vacation, so I took her to Urgent Care (its really slow as death care in my book) and Shriners Hospital is a "hospital" and we went there 6 times I think. Oh yeah....I got to go to the ER because I'm a moron and put my hand through the door. Yippee that was fun. I ended up gashing my other hand a few weeks ago too (because I'm great like that...who cuts their hand open on a can of peas????....I do) I needed stitches for that one too but I said to hell with it....bandaids and medical tape.

Yes. Only one time this year. Again, those stupid jerks from BF tried to break in to my neighbors house. I caught them in the act and called my ever so useless PD...big shocker, they didn't find them. I love paying taxes for stupidity.

The girls in C-town did it again
Another 5 gallon bucket filled to the brim and a shopping bag full of ziploc bags full of tabs for Shriners Hospital. A huge THANK YOU goes out to the wonderful members of the Old #4 FIRE & HOSE Ladies Auxiliary of Charlestown, NH and the guys in the Fire Department... and anyone else who pitched in that I'm not immediately aware of. They're TABS FOR TAYLOR campain is going strong. If they keep this up I'm going to have to visit SHC more often :) THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH !!!!!!!!!

The best place on earth
It was punk day for miss Taylor...she finally has some hair...I felt the need to show it by putting it in a mohawk
The girls and I went to Shriners Hospital yesterday to get Taylor's new arm. Every time I go there I love it more and more. We got there ridiculously early but it never really matters, there's so many people to see and talk to and wonderful things to look at and things to do. Ashtyn and I had a quick lunch outside since Taylor was sleeping when we pulled in and then I grabbed the gigantic trash bag of soda tabs
(this is only a portion of what I brought in....and yes that is a 5 gallon bucket... Many thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary in Charlestown.....we love you)
and Taylor and in we went. We weren't even there 5 minutes and Ashtyn was ready to live there forever. Her big thrill for the day was getting to see Sulley (from Monsters, Inc)....well that "big" adventure was tossed out to see Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Tweety Bird, Sylvester and Pepere LePew who were visiting Shriners Hospital from Six Flags. Tweety was in love with Taylor, Ashtyn was in love with all of them, and Taylor was kind of like, why are these "little" animals bigger than me? 
I thought Ashtyn might have a break down when the characters left but luckily there were some volunteers with a playdough station set up....crisis avoided...yay. Someone didn't show for their appointment, so we had ours early.... We got her new arm and then Rob (her prosthetist) showed me how to change the hand.....6 months of having this thing, I would have thought I would have figured that one out on my own....duh.... so she has 2 hands or her prosthetic now.... the new one is a bit larger than the old one and her real hand...its Ashtyn's size...or maybe a little bigger...but its the only size they make that hand in...she'll grow into it. And I know Kristy (her therapist) will work her magic teaching skill wand and Taylor will be a pro at using it and picking things up with it in no time. After our visit in O&P we went out to the lobby area and hung out there for at least an hour. Seriously this place is just awesome. I know I'm a pretty boring individual, but SHC rocks! We hung out with the receptionists and Ashtyn and Taylor played with the ball machine thingy.... and a Shriner from Pyramid Shrine in CT, Robert "Bob" Harriman and his wonderful wife..... I'm so sorry I forgot your name..... they played with the kids and spoke with me... it was a wonderful time. Bob put his Fez on Taylor, it was so cute. And of cource as usual my pictures are super limited.....I need to drag someone with me on visits just to take pictures for me. The publicity crew did take a bunch of pics of me and the girls with the characters and when I get the email, I post those pics too.

Another wonderful visit to Shriners Hospital in Springfield
Little miss Taylor has grown out of her arm so Auntie Lisa came down to play with Ashtyn for the day while Taylor and I went to Shriners to see Dr. Wenner and then visit Rob in O&P to get fitted for her new arm. We also dropped off the donations everyone collected for our SHrINE ON SPRINGFIELD fundraiser. They took a few pics (which you can see I did not...unfortunately) but it was a good time and everyone there just loves Taylor. I think we spent an hour just sitting in the middle of the walk way in the lobby with everyone googling over her. It was awesome to see grown men crawling around on the floor with her and replying to her growls with their own rendition. I just love that place so much. Every time I go I love it more. I can't imagine Taylor not being a patient there. It would break my heart to have to go somewhere else. As you'll see below, I'm not the only one who feels this way either. The first two pics are signatures of a petition to keep Springfield's facility open..... I have no idea how many names are on each piece of paper but as you can tell it spans two full walls.
This last pic is just a small taste of the letters received. They are from all sorts of people, families of patients, patients themselves, school children, friends of patients, professionals, Thank you notes, cards of concern, everything. All people who stand behind this wonderful hospital whether they're patients or not. Its a true testament of how much we love and appreciate everything that Springfield has done. To everyone at Springfield....Thank you.
Little miss Mayhem and I will be going back in a few weeks to get her new arm and visit with everyone again..... I can't wait... her new one is "antique-ie dots" and it has a spring loaded thumb....you'll see soon.

The Shriners national board meeting in San Antonio this week, has voted down a proposal to close six Shriners hospitals, including Spokane’s.
The six hospitals faced closure because an endowment that provides money to operate the 22-hospital system has shrunk, from $8.5 bilion to $5 billion.
Delegates will allow the six hospitals to explore partnerships with state-run or for-profit hospitals and other ways to cut costs, including billing insurers and Medicaid for the first time, and calling for budget cuts of 6 to 7 percent across the hospital system.
Other hospitals saved from closure are in Galveston, Tx., Shreveport, La., Greenville, S.C., Erie, Pa., and Springfield, Mass.
The Shriners hospitals in the United States provide free medical care to 125,000 children each year who suffer ailments ranging from clubbed feet to severe burns.
The 170 employees at the Spokane hospital handle 8,500 patient visits a year, and closing the facility would have forced children and their families to travel to Portland or Salt Lake City for care. (Shreveport Times, Spokesman Review, AP)

The Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane has been given a reprieve and will likely stay open .
Delegates to the charity’s annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas, voted Monday to withdraw an agenda item that would close six of the 22 hospitals.
There are few storylines as compelling as healing crippled children, and Shriners from around the country were not ready to bow to recessionary pressures and close hospitals that have spent decades helping children.
The issue could be revisited later this week, but local Shriners indicated last week that there was support for other scenarios, including billing insurers.
Local Shriners spokeswoman Sally Mildren said the Spokane hospital will hasten more intensive talks with Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center regarding possible collaborations.

Born without lower legs, Gina M. Gilday became a patient at Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield when she was just 2 weeks old.
The hospital provided her free prosthetic legs year after year as she grew; when she turned 16, the hospital staff directed her to a specialized driving school that could teach her how to oper ate a car with hand controls, therapists taught her day-to-day skills and, most important, they taught her parents she could grow up to be a strong, independent woman.
"Everything in my life comes down to that place," said Gilday, an Elms College senior from Hampden. "To think other children will not get the same opportunity is terrible."
The fate of the Springfield hospital and five others across the country is in the hands this week of the about 1,300 trustees for the Shriners corporation. The group begins meeting today in San Antonio, Texas, to discuss how to deal with a financial crisis that could lead the entire organization to bankruptcy in five to seven years. A two-thirds vote of the membership will be required to close any of the hospitals.
The organization, which never charges families or their insurance, operates through interest from an endowment fund. The stock market crisis decimated the fund, dropping it from $8 billion to $5 billion, and forced the hospitals to have to tap into the principal to help pay day-to-day expenses.
The separate Melha Shrine fraternity, which has nearly 200 groups across the country, including one in Springfield, works as the main fund-raisers for the hospitals.
One proposal to save money is to close the five orthopedic hospitals in Springfield, Greenville, S.C., Spokane, Wash., Shreveport, La., and Erie, Pa. Trustees will also decide if they should repair a burn hospital in Galveston, Texas, which has been closed for more than a year after being damaged by a hurricane.
"I think it is probably the most historic convention we will have," said Allen G. Zippin, of Longmeadow, a past chairman and current member of the Springfield hospital's board of governors and one of the voting trustees.
Since the announcement was made about the possibility of the Springfield Shriners Hospital closing, people throughout New England joined Western Massachusetts residents in efforts to save the hospital. They wrote letters, sent e-mails, signed petitions and held a massive rally across the street from the Carew Street hospital.
Zippin said he is hoping the closing of hospitals does not even come to a vote at the annual convention; if it happens, a vote is likely either Tuesday or Wednesday.
"We are feeling a little more optimistic than we were a few months ago because there are a lot of interesting proposals out there," he said.
One is to form a commission to examine the entire organization and scrutinize the financial outlook of all 22 Shriners hospitals. That commission would then submit a report with recommendations on how to turn around financial problems, Zippin said.
Even if the commission comes to the same conclusion that the hospitals must be closed, it will likely have to wait a year because the trustees only hold one annual meeting, he said.
But Ralph W. Semb, president and chief operating officer of Shriners Hospitals for Children, who lives in Erving, questioned the idea of forming a commission.
"That is forming another commission after we have had three already," he said. "They have all come back with the same thing: Close hospitals."
But closing hospitals or forming a commission are not the only two things the trustees will discuss. Officials for Springfield's hospital have submitted a creative plan to revamp the way the hospital runs, which will lower operating costs. Several other hospital have submitted ideas as well.
Semb said he believes Springfield's preliminary plan, which calls for working in a partnership with neighboring Baystate Medical Center, is worth considering and could help keep the facility open.
"I realize there has been some effort and I would like to see that continue," he said. "There are negotiations on going with Baystate."
Zippin said the nine-member Springfield delegation does hope to present the plan to revamp the hospital to trustees.
That plan, submitted to the Shriners Hospitals board in April, calls for the two hospitals to work together to provide pediatric services. One portion favors having some of the most expensive surgical procedures performed at Baystate, which does bill insurance companies, and have children transferred to Shriners to recover, he said.
"Baystate has signed a letter of intent to work with us," Zippin said. "They see advantages in collaboration and coordination of services."

SHrINE ON SPRINGFIELD
Some how, no one knew or informed us of Springfield having their alumni parade at the same exact day, same exact time, starting at the same exact location as our walk for Shriners. I was really kinda mad about not knowing due to the fact there were some Shriners at the parade!! That, and the fact that a couple of walkers drove down from Burlington to join us and couldn't find us due to NBC's parking lot being full of floats! And the traffic detour crew weren't going to let our water guy return to our location when he returned from the store. Aside from all the headaches and hassles and changes in plans, we pulled it off. The weather was awesome! And we all walked and sweat and sweat some more and then headed back to Ron and Sue's for a celebratory cookout and refreshing swim in the pool. And we raised a decent amount for a very quickly thrown together event. And no help what-so-ever from any of the sources I had sought out for publicity...... you know who you are....and if you don't, you will...... All the things that worked against us this year were good though. It has shown me things I need to plan for and take into consideration for next year. I'm still hemming and hawing about a motorcycle run this year but I'll have to see how things go still..... that might take a lot more preparation than I can give. So far, we collected $1392 and some change...(2 donations were done online....and are basically separate from our collections...but I am still counting them due to they were because of our SOS fundraiser). This collection is potentially incomplete at this time as we have a few people who have asked to still give a donation, but were unable to do so by Friday, and since I'm not going to Shriners until July 8th, I told those people to just get it to me by the 7th, so I'm hoping they come through. I also have a 50 gallon trash bag full to the spilling point of nickel cans that I still have to recycle and will be adding that money to the pot. And we also received a lot of "goods" donations. Between the stickers, the banner and the shirts, that was about 500 dollars worth of stuff. And Ron and Sue spent a ton on food for our post-walk party. We also collected about 6-7 pounds of soda can tabs!!!! That's an insane amount of tabs. I am sad we only collect $1400, but considering we just did another charity drive 8 weeks ago and this one was planned and pulled off in 5 weeks, I'm definitely thrilled we were able to collect what we did. I may have also stumbled upon a corporate sponser for SHC too. There is a company near me that is looking for a new charitable organization to donate to....we are currently looking into it and I'm hoping for the best. I will keep everyone updated as I learn more. Thank you to everyone who walked, everyone who donated and thank you Shriners Hospital for Children.

Another day, a better outlook
I'm impatiently awaiting next Friday. I want to run until I can't run anymore. I can not wait to get my butt up north and be surrounded by trees, trees, more trees, and no route 12. Yes, I'm talking about CAMP! It will be a short visit but well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive. I'm so giddy to sit my tushy on the new FLUSHING toilet. GOOD BYE OUTHOUSE!!!!! Just to be out of town for a few days.... I'm salivating... I'm so excited. No computer. No phone. Just the kids (and only MINE), some family, friends and atv's. and S'mores. Campfires. A pig roast. I need a vacation and I totally need camp ASAP.
Aside from my camp adventure excitement. Shrine On Springfield collections are still rolling in. I still have really no idea what to expect at the walk, which makes me nervous but in all actuality, it doesn't matter to me how many people show, I know I'll be there, and I know what I've collected for Shriners so far, and I'm beyond thrilled to be able to hand it over to them and know that I did what I could and it helped...even if only a little, it still helped. And next year, I will try harder and bigger and better.

SHrINE ON Springfield
My friends and I are going to give it a whirl. Its not the fundraiser I wanted to do but at least we can do one. And we did raise a lot of money in no time for the March of Dimes, so hopefully we have similar or better results for Shriners. We're putting together a walk-a-thon and we'll most likely have a pot-luck barbecue for the people who participate after the walk, either at my place or at some other local/neutral location. All money collected will be going to the Shriners Hospital in Springfield Mass. I'm not spending any money on door prizes or whatever so there is no start up money to be deducted from the collections. If I get some freebies to offer, great! and if not, everyone who participates will just have the feeling of knowing they did something for a wonderful cause as a souvenir. Pray for nice weather, lots of walkers and donors and that Springfield Shriners remains up and running.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - On Sunday afternoon hundreds of people rallied across the street from Shriners Hospital on the lawn of the Springfield Boys and Girls Club . They came to serve notice that they will do everything in their power to keep the children's hospital open. If Springfield's Shriner's Hospital eventually closes its doors, it won't be for lack of community support.
22News spoke with parents and grandparents who've experienced the hospitals healing power on their young. "It's just such a wonderful place and what a loss it would be to the community if Shriners were to leave," said Amy Coons of Wilbraham.
Supporters have launched a petition drive to save the hospital. "I'm a grandmother raising 4 grandchildren that are orphans. Steck and stormy were both born with cerebral palsy and we've been coming to Shriners for seven years," said Kathi Sheehan of Springfield.
The Shriners fervent supports consider their afternoon rally just the starting point. They're determined to keep the Springfield hospital from closing its doors, as they honor the thousands of children already helped, and many more to be cured of their disabilities in the years ahead.
One little girl summed it all up so beautifully when she addressed the rally telling supporters of what the Shriners Hospital has meant to her. "I was suffering from juvenile rhemetitus and they literally saved my life a couple of years ago. I couldn't even get out of bed," said Emily Tonning, Former Shriners Hospital patient.
A decision on which Shriner's location will close is expected to be made in July.

I'm going to be an aunt....and other things that happened this week
Now that I've got your attention......Its not Julie!!! Jeremy's half-sister Crystal is expecting. Congrats Crystal!!! (Jolene and GG, I saw you both jump, and I'm giggling to the point of wetting myself.) Team "Chaos and Mayhem" (March of Dimes) has grown to 8 members (and 7 baby-members).... and we've raised almost 500 dollars so far (not bad for 10 days).....we've got 15 days left to rally some more funds but 4 people joined us yesterday and I don't know yet how much CrownPoint is donating for Travis. Now if only I can pull something similar off to help Shriners. Depending on how this vote of theirs goes in July, I may be attempting a community wide party to benefit them. I'm still in the pondering stages and finding out what I can for info on how to go about this project. If all goes as planned it shouldn't be a big deal and it could actually get a lot of donations for them and be a ton of fun. Here's to hope. For those of you completely confused as to what I'm talking about, you apparently somehow missed the 8,000 posts of news clips I put up, but the hospital Taylor goes to for her prosthetics and Orthopaedic needs might close, along with 5 of their other locations due to lack of funds, stock market losses, decline of donations, etc. If they close Taylor and lots of other kids will either have to trek thousands of more miles away for care, or they may not even be able to receive care anymore. That's not an option in my book. I'm currently trying on much smaller than community-wide-party scale to rally some donations and at least light a fire under some people's tushies to donate. I've got a million and one ideas, I just need to figure out how to make them work. Hmmm other stuff that's going on... Jeremy got his engineer's license, so he can now drive the train without someone holding his hand:) Woo-hoo! And a raise:) Super-WOO-HOO! and a cut in hours :( Not so woo-hoo. But back on the ups, one of my ex-daycare families might be a re-enrolled daycare family!! Yippee. Apparently "Mom" and her mom and step-dad are going into a Tri-ownership of a new restaurant. Super! And my current part time fella might become a full timer in May. Its about time something changed for the better around here. I hate not having a ton of kids around, I get all out of sorts when its just my two. When I've got a bunch, I've got a schedule, I've got rhythm, I've got some sanity. When its just Ashtyn, Taylor and myself, there is no schedule, there is not rhythm, its full of indecision and destruction, or a doctors visit that will undoubtedly be accompanied by a HUMONGOUS BLOW OUT TANTRUM FROM HELL...in other words, not as fun as it should be. Speaking of my tantrum-haver, she's in love with her dad this week?!?! She had a complete break down when he left to go to Sam's tonight. She ran to the door behind him and just screamed and cried and yelled for her daddy. It was so sad but nice at the same time. She's not usually (at least for the past year) very lovey. She is generally happy just doing whatever with whoever until she gets in trouble and then she wants anyone who isn't the person scolding her. But the last couple days, she's been a total Daddy's girl. And when she's not glued to her dad, she's trying to help me with anything and everything. I don't know what happened to her or if she's been switched with an alien, but she's a total different kid this week. On that note, I've have caught you up on the good, the bad and the in general happenings of the homestead and now I'm departing to my bed.... my mind is jumping around like a kid with ADD after drinking a 12 pack of redbull.....I'm sure you've noticed......waaaaaay past my bedtime. 3 weeks and counting
Little miss Taylor had her first visit to the Shriner's hospital yesterday and it went really well. Thanks to the Garmin GPS I had no trouble finding the place. If my mother hadn't brought it I would have driven us to Florida for sure. Ashtyn tolerated hanging out in the waiting room pretty well. We were armed with Auntie Lisa, fruit snacks, animal crackers, a couple toys and my lap top with Shrek and Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer. All that coupled with the really cool toys and play stations that they had there, she was in heaven. Both girls slept the entire ride there and most of the way home too which made the drive tolerable. I was kind of expecting a long drawn out day full of seeing a barrage of doctors and specialists but it was really quick and stress free...which is my favorite kind of anything!!! We met with the orthopaedic specialist and were sent to see the prosthetic team who then took a mold or Taylor little hand and the day was basically done. They made us an appointment to come back in 3 weeks to get her new prosthetic and to meet with the physical therapy team and that was that. And we already have our appointment for next February when she'll get fitted and hooked up with a myo-electric prosthetic. Now all we have to do is hope these ROM exercises I'm doing with her pay off and she loses this limited abduction issue she has otherwise we could be back to Shriner's for a whole lot more :(
